What we can help with
Garage door work in Lubbock
Most requests fall into one of these. Each page explains what usually went wrong, what the fix involves, and what it typically costs.
Broken spring repair
The most common garage door breakdown. Torsion vs. extension springs, why both are usually replaced together, and why this isn’t a DIY job.
Springs →Opener repair & installation
Openers that hum, reverse, or ignore the remote. When a repair makes sense, and what chain, belt and wall-mount openers cost.
Openers →Off track, cable & roller repair
A door hanging crooked, a snapped cable, or rollers out of the track. Stop using it, and here’s why.
Off track →New garage doors
Steel, insulated and wind-rated doors, what a new single or double door costs, and when replacing beats repairing.
New doors →Hail & wind damage
Dented panels after a hailstorm or a door pushed in by wind. How to document it for insurance and what to ask your adjuster.
Storm damage →Emergency repair
Car stuck inside, door stuck open overnight, or a door that came down crooked. What to do first and what not to touch.
Emergency →Why it matters here
Lubbock is hard on garage doors
Lubbock had about 273,000 residents in 2025, up from about 257,000 in 2020, according to Census estimates, and Lubbock County added thousands of new homes a year. Northwest Lubbock and Wolfforth have led the region in new home starts, almost all with attached garages. That’s a lot of springs, cables and openers wearing out at once.
The weather adds to it. The National Weather Service in Lubbock has documented hail up to grapefruit size in town (June 2023), a dust storm with gusts up to 75 mph (October 2011), and a 63 mph wind event in 2019 that destroyed a carport. The Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety calls the garage door the most vulnerable opening in a house during high winds.

Signs your garage door needs work
- A loud bang from the garage, then the door won’t lift
- The door feels very heavy when you lift it by hand
- A gap in the spring above the door, or a loose, frayed cable
- The door hangs crooked, or rollers have left the track
- The opener hums or clicks but the door doesn’t move
- The door reverses on its own, or doesn’t reverse when it should
If the door is crooked or a spring or cable is broken, stop using it and keep people and cars clear until it’s fixed.

Safety first
Two things every Lubbock homeowner should know
Springs are under a lot of tension. The garage door industry association, DASMA, advises using a trained technician for spring work. A spring or cable that lets go can cause serious injury.
Your opener must reverse. Since 1993, federal rules have required automatic openers sold in the U.S. to have entrapment protection, usually photo eyes near the floor. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says to test the reversing feature monthly.
